Occupancy that’s always real
The board derives occupancy from the placement record, so the numbers can’t drift. Capacity, occupied, vacant and occupancy percentage update automatically as residents are admitted, moved, placed on bed-hold or discharged.
- Occupied and on-hold states come from placements — never set by hand, never stale.
- A self-healing sweep frees any bed left marked occupied with no current placement.
- Status is fully lookup-driven, so a new bed state is a configuration change, not a rebuild.

Placement is date-tracked, so an admission, an internal move or a discharge each writes a full history automatically — with a reason and effective dates — rather than overwriting the past.
- Resident status (Active / On Leave / Discharged / Deceased) drives bed-hold during a hospital stay.
- Room and bed cascade off the chosen home and room, so you can’t place into the wrong unit.
No double-booking, by design
A guard on the placement write refuses to put a resident into a bed already held by someone else, or into one that’s out of service, maintenance or mid-deep-clean — the transaction aborts cleanly with nothing changed.
- Assigning into an occupied bed is rejected — the move is atomic, all-or-nothing.
- Move a resident and the old bed frees to Vacant while the new one flips to Occupied.
Room 14 marked vacant on Tuesday; admission paperwork starts; the new resident’s room is ready by Wednesday lunchtime — and the family knows exactly when.
